Events assists corporations in the development and executing of
their hospitality events, meetings and incentives. Often, companies
do not have the necessary know-how to develop a unique program or
businesses simply do not have the manpower in-house to give the
organization of events the attention it deserves. The assistance
can be for a specific element of the organization of a program or
can focus on the overall development of an event. Aspects like budgeting,
accommodations, transportation, venues, catering, staffing, registration,
security, website and collateral are all part of this exciting world
called “event planning”. “Composing” these, as Marleen Braams, the
owner of the company would say is what Xselling Events is all about.
Marleen
has a solid knowledge of hotel logistics; it being related to
accommodations, food and beverage or conventions. Her hotel background in
the convention department of leading hotels in 3 different countries as
well as having experienced the life as a cast member in the convention
department of one of the largest and most fun convention venues in Europe,
Disneyland Paris, has certainly helped her to make her career as an Event
Planner a successful one.
To
broaden the ‘Event Horizon’, she decided in the year 2000 to join
an event agency in the USA. In the beginning she assisted them on
a contractual basis which gave her the experience of being part
of the Olympic movement. She managed a hospitality program in Sydney
in 2000 as well as Salt Lake City in 2002. This same agency outsourced
her for a year to work within the walls of a Fortune 500 multinational
to organize their biggest and most prestigious sport event yet,
the World Cup Championships Football in Japan in 2002. After having
planned and managed about 10 more events and meetings, Marleen decided
to start her own orchestra of event services in Brussels in the
first quarter of 2003.
Part
of the creativity of the company is reflected in Marleen’s position. “ I did not want to call myself a CEO or President”, she says, “these
terms are too formal. For me, a composer, is a much better
description for the job”. “It is because my last name; Braams,
closely resembles the famous composer Brahms and the fact that
creating events is much like composing a symphony; one needs to
make sure that all the instruments are tuned correctly
and that they play in harmony. My musical talents are not that good, but I
do have a piano in the office to reflect this philosophy.”
